7 Facts About Red Fort




  • It was originally in white colour,as it was the favorite colour of the emperor Shah Jahan.

  • Construction of the fort began in the sacred month of muharram on 13 May 1638 and it was completed on 6 April 1648.

  • It was the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal Empire for nearly 200 years, until 1856.

  • The design of the fort is credited to architect Ustad ahmad lahauri,who was also architect of the taj mahal.

  • Qila-I-Mubarak is the real name of the fort given by the mughals.

  • The fort was build by Shah Jahan as he shifted the capital of his empire from Agra to Delhi.

  • Every year on India's independence day (15 August) prime minister of India gives speech to the nation from the lal qila (native name of the red fort).
